Пора создавать праздничное настроение, и лучше всего это сделать с новинкой от Кайли – Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped). Альбом изначально вышел в 2015-м и тогда он казался большой ошибкой в карьере певицы: после провала Kiss Me Once она будто отдалялась от привычной яркой поп-музыки в сторону слушателей среднего возраста.
Но в итоге проект оказался одним из самых успешных в дискографии: второй по стримам после Fever, а кавер на Santa Baby каждый год к Рождеству возвращается в чарты. Поэтому после новой волны успеха с двойным альбомом и мировым турне Tension имело смысл отметить десятилетие пластинки по-особенному.
Главным недочётом первых изданий был слишком длинный треклист: всего за два года выпустили больше двадцати песен, среди которых большинство были каверами. В такой короткий праздничный сезон почти невозможно распробовать часовой альбом, особенно если в нём громче слышно оркестр, чем саму Кайли. Новая версия предлагает более сжатый плейлист из двенадцати треков, и большинство здесь оригинальные песни, включая три новинки. Это позволило найти баланс между довольно избитой, но неизбежной рождественской классикой и современным стильным диско-попом.
Открывается альбом как раз с классики: It’s The Most Wonderful Time с грандиозной оркестровой аранжировкой, Далее, конечно же, Santa Baby– песня, которая изначально была би-сайдом к Please Stay 25 лет назад и должна была им оставаться, но почему-то стала хитом. Не очень люблю её в принципе – медленная, скучная и пошлая в отчаянных попытках казаться соблазнительной. Поэтому я очень рад, что с ней мы разделались почти сразу.
Также на пластинку попал дуэт с Фрэнком Синатрой Santa Clause is Coming to Town, на котором Кайли очень убедительно подпевает оригинальной записи, и даже удалось сохранить ретро-атмосферу с пыльным звуком.
На поп-стороне нас ждёт наивная песенка с мелодией, будто из детской считалочки At Christmas, и два моих личных фаворита White December и Christmas Isn’t Christmas Til You Get Here. В первой шикарный эмоциональный припев, во второй отличное развитие с двумя модуляциями. Очень динамичные треки, которые заслуживают стать новой праздничной классикой.
Особняком стоит 100 Degrees – зажигательный диско-трек про летнее Рождество в Австралии. Хотя в США поют песни про Рождество в Техасе или на Гавайях и тема пальмы и пляжа вместо ёлки и снега не нова, про Южное полушарие в праздники не так много напоминаний, и очень уместно получить его именно от сестёр Миноуг. В песне есть все элементы хита: чувственное вступление, меланхолический бридж, взрывной припев и отличный вокал.
Из абсолютных новинок на альбоме медленная This Time of Year, очень милая, почти бардовская Office Party с вайбом поздних 70-х и главный поп-трек альбома Hot in December, который напоминает Always and Forever Донны Льюис и отлично вписывается в дискографию самой Кайли.

It’s officially time to lean into the festive season, and what better way than with a refreshed holiday release from Kylie Minogue: Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped). When the original album came out in 2015, it felt like a strange move for her. After the commercial stumble of Kiss Me Once, a traditional Christmas record looked like a step toward an older, more conservative audience and away from the vibrant pop identity she was known for.
Yet the album turned out to be one of the most successful projects in her catalog. It’s now her second most-streamed release after Fever, and her version of “Santa Baby” returns to the charts every December. With the renewed global visibility brought by Tension and its world tour, marking the record’s tenth anniversary with a thoughtfully reworked edition feels surprisingly natural.
The new version fixes the biggest issue of the earlier releases: their length. Over twenty tracks across two editions were just too much for the short Christmas season, especially when lush orchestral arrangements often buried Kylie’s own presence. By narrowing the playlist to twelve songs — most of them originals and three of them brand new — the album finds a clearer identity and a better balance between unavoidable holiday staples and stylish, contemporary disco-pop.
It opens with a grand take on “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” before quickly moving through the now-traditional “Santa Baby.” The latter, originally a B-side from twenty-five years ago, somehow became a seasonal hit, though it’s hardly her strongest moment: slow, slightly dull, and leaning too heavily into playful seduction. The duet with Frank Sinatra on “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” on the other hand, is unexpectedly charming. Kylie slips into the vintage recording with ease, and the dusty, retro atmosphere is preserved without feeling gimmicky.
The pop material is where the album truly comes alive. “At Christmas” has a sweet, almost nursery-rhyme melody; “White December” delivers a big emotional chorus; and “Christmas Isn’t Christmas ‘Til You Get Here” unfolds with real momentum, complete with two modulations that lift it into something delightfully theatrical. These tracks feel modern, dynamic, and worthy of becoming part of the evolving holiday canon.
Then there’s “100 Degrees,” the brilliant disco anthem celebrating Australia’s summertime Christmas. While American pop has long embraced songs about festive seasons in warm places like Texas or Hawaii, reminders about the Southern Hemisphere are rarer, and hearing one from the Minogue sisters feels perfectly fitting. The track has all the elements of a hit — a sensual intro, a wistful bridge, a huge chorus, and standout vocal work — and remains one of the most memorable moments in the collection.
Among the brand-new additions, “This Time of Year” is a soft, gentle ballad; “Office Party” brings a late-70s warmth with a touch of acoustic charm; and “Hot in December,” the strongest of the new songs, channels the breezy pop energy of Donna Lewis’s “Always and Forever” while fitting seamlessly into Kylie’s own discography.
Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped) finally captures Christmas in Kylie’s own language — not as an exercise in recreating the classics with a jazz orchestra, but as something light, stylish, and undeniably her. A warm and confident 4/5.
