В прошлом году я назвал альбом Рошин Мёрфи главным релизом года и поставил ему наивысшую оценку. Но, честно говоря, с тех пор я к пластинке больше не возвращался. Все треки у меня есть в основном плейлисте и иногда играют на шаффле, но на альбом целиком нужно правильное настроение, чтобы его переварить.
Я боялся, что и этот альбом ремиксов придётся переваривать, и всё откладывал прослушивание, ожидая какой-нибудь хардкор и экспериментальную электронику, смотря на искажённое лицо певицы на обложке. Но всё оказалось намного доступнее: вполне обычные клубные миксы, где в разных пропорциях замешаны хаус и диско.
Пару лет назад я уже обозревал альбом ремиксов Crooked Machine, где певица представила альтернативные версии почти всех треков с альбома. Этот релиз не столь глубоко проработан: задействованы всего пять треков с альбома, и некоторые миксы из коллекции уже выходили в прошлом году. Но рядом все треки всё равно звучат очень выгодно и складываются в отличный часовой плейлист.
Открывает альбом главный трек, который даже вышел синглом перед альбомом. System Olympia Remix на песню The House больше напомнил олдскульные extended миксы на 12» пластинках, на которые кто-то случайно закинул хаус-бит. В такой версии песня вполне могла бы вписаться в прошлый диско-альбом Рошин Róisin Machine. Наверно, диско приходит мне здесь на ум ещё и из-за проигрыша, который с первых же секунд напомнил Giorgio by Moroder.
Далее по курсу два отличных ремикса на Can’t Replicate: Baba Ali Remix с намёками на электронику нулевых, а Hernan Cattaneo & Mercurio Remix превращает студийную версию в прогрессив хаус, сохраняя все основные элементы трека. Клубный микс DJ Koze на CooCool тоже лишь добавляет к ленивой мелодии танцевальный бит, сохраняя причудливость оригинала.
Завершает альбом внезапно джазовый What Not To Do (Moodyman Remix)с роскошным басом, гипнотическим электропианино и случайными стерео-стонами в разных каналах. Очень тёплый, органический трек, который звучит ещё выгоднее после пятидесяти минут электронных битов и с этой лёгкой меланхолией даже напоминает мне оригинал Sing It Back.
В целом, очень классная подборка миксов. Хоть некоторые песни получили аж по два ремикса, версии столь разные, что нет ощущения, что слушаешь одно и то же по кругу. При этом они достаточно похожи, чтобы сложиться в цельный плейлист. Ставлю 4.5/5.

Last year, I named Róisín Murphy’s album as the top release of the year and gave it the highest rating. However, honestly, I haven’t revisited the album since. All the tracks are in my main playlist and occasionally play on shuffle, but listening to the entire album requires the right mood to digest it fully.
I feared that this remix album would also be hard to digest and kept postponing the listening, expecting some hardcore and experimental electronic music, especially with the distorted face of the singer on the cover. But it turned out to be much more accessible: quite ordinary club mixes with varying proportions of house and disco.
A couple of years ago, I reviewed the remix album «Crooked Machine,» where the singer presented alternative versions of almost all the tracks from the album. This release is not as deeply worked out: only five tracks from the album are used, and some mixes from the collection were already released last year. Nevertheless, all the tracks together still sound very good and make up an excellent one-hour playlist.
The album opens with the main track, which was even released as a single before the album. The System Olympia Remix of the song «The House» is reminiscent of old-school extended mixes on 12» records, with a house beat accidentally thrown in. In this version, the song could easily fit into Róisín’s previous disco album «Róisín Machine.» Perhaps disco comes to mind here also because of the instrumental, which from the first seconds reminded me of «Giorgio by Moroder.»
Next up are two excellent remixes of «Can’t Replicate»: Baba Ali Remix with hints of 2000s electronics, and Hernan Cattaneo & Mercurio Remix turns the studio version into progressive house, retaining all the main elements of the track. DJ Koze’s club mix of «CooCool» also only adds a dance beat to the hazy melody, preserving the quirkiness of the original.
The album closes with the unexpectedly jazzy «What Not To Do (Moodymann Remix)» featuring a luxurious bass, hypnotic electric piano, and some random stereo moans. A very warm, organic track that sounds even better after fifty minutes of electronic beats and with its light melancholy even reminds me of the»Sing It Back» (album version).
Overall, it’s a very cool selection of mixes. Even though some songs received two remixes, the versions are so different that there is no feeling of listening to the same thing on repeat. At the same time, they are similar enough to form a cohesive playlist. I give it a 4.5/5.
